001 - [Action]
Part One
[Anyone passing by the Battledome might notice a stranger sitting on the ground nearby, quite clearly disorientated as he rests a hand on his head and tries to make sense of what on earth had just happened to him. Where was he? What was this domed building all about? Why was he half-naked?! Aside from that he was obviously alone here with no sign of Hanpan, Rudy or the princess anywhere in sight.
Luckily, it didn't take long for Jack to spot his clothes neatly piled up beside him, though he had to wonder why whoever had done this to him had bothered to strip him of his clothes, only to leave them right next to him. There was a book sitting on top of it too. An explanation, perhaps? It's when he clothes himself that he realises there's something else odd about this situation. No... odd about him. Before donning his coat, he reaches behind him and realises that he's suddenly sprouted wings!]
...what the hell?!
[They were definitely real... and lead him to test the rest of his body for any sudden additional appendages, though he doesn't find anything else out of the ordinary. Well, nothing aside from the fact that everything he was carrying, including his sword, has also gone missing. Great. Now he was lost, confused and unarmed all at once.]
Part Two
[Later in the day, after giving the book a look over, Jack heads into the nearby village, noting all the rest of the people here who seem to have sprouted wings. Following the paths leads him past rows of houses, over a river and eventually into a town. At least he should be able to find supplies here, hopefully make some money too.
...he was about to head into the weapons shop to see if he could find something suitable, but becomes sidetracked by the bar there. After everything that had happened? A drink might be good right about now.]
(OOC: Feel free to meet him by the Battledome, in Good Spirits, or anywhere in between!)

Good Spirits
[Karla approaches the newcomer with a pleasant smile.]
Hello, you look like a new face. What can I get for you today?
no subject
Something strong. [Anything would do. Just enough to clear his head. As she deals with the drink, he mulls over those words - 'new face'.] Are you one of the locals? What can you tell me about this town?
no subject
[That's the first time she's gotten a rather generalized order. So it takes her a little longer to choose something to serve. She decides on a mug of beer and brings it back out, setting it on the table. And then she answers his next question.]
A local? Well, I would not say I'm a local anywhere...
[She's wandered for so long, she's lost the ability to call any place a home.]
But this place is called Luceti. I've been here for about a year now.
no subject
Besides, now he had the attention of the barmaid, he could start getting some answers.]
Luceti, huh? I've never heard of it... But if you're not a local then where did you wander in from? You must have come from somewhere.
[Assuming she did wander in of course. Or did she just get thrown here like himself? If they were in the same predicament, maybe she'd learned a thing or two about the situation after a year of living here.]
no subject
I hadn't heard of Luceti either. I'm from Elibe...but no one knows how any of us got here. People just...appear and disappear, I guess. But the Malnosso keep us in here, and sometimes they run experiments.
no subject
[Just that word alone caught his attention and his expression turned grim. It was bad enough trying to combat the demons' own twisted experimentation without being subjected to it in a completely alien environment. Against a foe he knew nothing about...]
Then you're saying these Malnosso guys are the ones bring people here? Is... that what these wings are about?
[What were they trying to do, turn them into monsters?]
I don't like the sound of this at all.
no subject
The wings...I'm not sure what they're about...but I do know that losing both wings will kill us.
[Even she's having a hard time making sense of this after a whole year.]
I totally though I'd tagged this, sorry x.x
[He'll take another swig before nearly choking on it as he realises what she just said.]
Kill us?! They're that important?
no subject
[Her eyes widen, concerned as he chokes, and then responds.]
Ah, yes...even minor injuries to the wings are extremely painful, so it must be true.
no subject
[The more he hears about the place the more twisted he's realising it is. There's an awful lot to get his head around it seems.
It's then he remembers the book he found when he arrived. He takes it out and puts it down on the bar.]
Oh yeah, I found this after I came to. Do you know anything about it?
no subject
[She takes a look at the book. It looks like the journal that everyone uses.]
Oh, that must be your journal. You can use it to communicate with everyone here. It's a nice thing to have.
no subject
[He looks as though he's about to question how a book could possibly be used to communicate with everyone, not to mention why everyone here had books that allowed them to do so but... perhaps right now it would best to leave it.]
I get it. Some kind of magic book. I'll have to look into it more later.
Anyway, thanks for the help. What should I call you?
no subject
I don’t know if it’s magic, but it is interesting and useful. [She smiles at the thanks.] I’m Karla. How about you?
no subject
My name's Jack. Hey, if you see a little blue mouse around, let me know okay?
[action]
For a moment, he stares in silence, if not downright shock. It's been two years since he's last seen anyone from his world, but surely he'd recognize that dusty old coat anywhere. He can't just be seeing things, can he?
He'll follow inside the bar, glancing around until he stops at that familiar face. Granted, he could only see him from behind, but... this HAS to be his friend. There's no mistaking it. Rudy approaches a little closer, calling out to the man.]
Jack? Is that you?
[action]
Rudy?! What are you doing here?
[But well, he's not going to bother to hide his relief at seeing him all the same and approaches the boy to give him a friendly hair-ruffle.
...before realising there's something a little different about him. He peers a little closer, scrutinising him for anything unusual. What if he really was just a strange illusion conjured up by kidnappers?]
Wait, have you grown? How is that possible? We were together just moments ago!
[action]
[The hair-ruffle isn't unwelcomed at all; if anything, it's nostalgic and it's hard to hold back the small smile turning up on his face. It's a bit strange as well, considering he was almost eye-level with Jack now. Wow. Has he really changed that much in two years?]
I know it probably sounds hard to believe, but we've both been here a while. ... In fact, you might want to sit down for this while I explain.
[action]
Well, all right, he'll sit.]
If it's going to be a long story then we might as well talk over a drink. Besides, I'm parched. What do you say?
[action]
Sounds like a plan. [And with that, he moves to take a seat at the bar.] Gotta warn you we might be here a while. About two years worth of things to fill you in on.
[action]
Do you think you can give me the short version? If you take too long, I'll be blind drunk by the end of it.
[Speaking of, time to flag down the barmaid.]
What are you drinking? Straight whiskey sounds good to me.
[action]
Think I'll stick with a gin and tonic here.
[Boring? Yes. But hey, it's what his grandfather used to drink! And he isn't exactly looking to get too buzzed here.]
So, before we get started, what've you learned so far? [Might as well ask beforehand so he knows, right?]
[action]
There's a weird town where everyone has wings and people just happen to turn up there from time to time. If you lose your wings, you lose your life. [He pauses, before remembering something else to add.] Oh, and something about a book that lets you talk to people.
[It sounds even crazier when he says it out loud.]
[action]
That's the gist of it. [There's a thoughtful, but cautious aside glance before continuing.] The Malnosso are the ones keeping us in this enclosure, but they didn't exactly bring us into this world. People just show up, and no one knows why.
[For some, it's easy to get that part of things mixed up or outright incorrect. It wouldn't be good for Jack to be misunderstanding anything, so Rudy makes sure to mention that first.]
I showed up here with Cecilia around a couple years ago. Jane arrived not too long after that. [Rudy glances back up at the man, as if to make sure he's following.]
[action]
Wait, so if these Malnosso guys aren't the ones putting us here then why are they herding us like cattle?
[Either they were intending to use them for something, or they were shutting out things from the outside... maybe both. His thoughts become distracted though as Rudy mentions another familiar name.]
The princess is here too?
[action]
For our safety, or so they say. There's a war going on outside against a faction called the Third Party.
[Oh, look at that. It's their drinks. Good timing. Rudy takes a small drink, noting the bittersweet taste as he continues.]
The Malnosso are trying to find us a way home, while the Third Party wants to capture and sacrifice everyone. [There's a grim look as he adds:] "Sacrificing" being their way of killing us permanently.
[action]
...though something else Rudy says leads him to look a little bemused. So many questions!]
What do you mean by 'sent home'? Is there some kind of requirement for that or is it just as random as the arrivals?
[He'll try not to think too hard on it now their drinks have arrived. Jack might be taking his with a bit more gusto than Rudy. The more he hears about the place, the less he likes it. It was starting to give him a headache.]
Then you're saying death isn't permanent here... unless these Third Party guys say so. And the Malnosso are keeping us like animals while they look for a way to send us back? This is crazy!
[action]
[He takes another sip. He's not surprised Jack's got so many questions, but where to even begin?]
The Malnosso are trapped here too, like us. Every so often, they run these things called shift experiments on us - there's been many different types which changed us in different ways. They're usually temporary, though...
[His expression briefly turns sad at the thought of Cecilia's disappearance, staring into his glass. But he'll continue.]
As for people who get sent home, it, well... it just happens. Sometimes, people just up and disappear, along with most of their belongings. ... I still have some of Cecilia's things.
no subject
Hi. Are you okay?
no subject
...that bemusement doesn't fade as he turns to the boy in red and his eyes rest firmly on the odd yellow creature on his shoulder. Suddenly he was starting to miss Hanpan...]
Uh, hey. I'd say that depends on your definition of 'okay'. I don't know where the hell I am right now or what's going on.
no subject
Oh, so you just arrived? I get it! [ Still though, it's weird to suddenly meet a new person... like he was one! His bag with him as well, Red moves it off his other shoulder with the intent to grab his journal, but pauses, looking over to confirm he had seen the man with one in his hands. ]
Did you find the guide that tells you about everything? No?
no subject
So it's normal for people to just suddenly turn up here, huh? I don't even know where 'here' is, it doesn't look like any place I recognise.
[And he'd been all over Filgaia so surely he would have known of a town as weird as this.]
no subject
This is Luceti. And it's normal - people showing up suddenly. It happened to me too, but I ended up in the forest.
[ From his bag he takes out his own journal, flipping it open. Yet that thing is really long, isn't it? He keeps it in his hand, but for now... ]
I'll take you over to the welcome centre they have, and I'll make the guide thing show up on your book too. There's maps in the building and a bunch of other stuff. But I'll tell you stuff along the way to help!
no subject
[This whole thing was still surreal and would certainly take a while to get used to. Jack takes note of the book in the boy's hand, realising that it is similar to his own.]
They have a welcome center? Guess they're really not strangers to visitors in that case.
[Well, he can't stand around here forever and the kid seems to know what he's talking about.]
I'm Jack. What's your name, kid?
no subject
[ If he got the guide correctly, the time that he read it. ]
I'm Red! And this is Pikachu. [ Nodding his head to the creature. ] We haven't been here long either. Everything's going to be really weird at first because everyone's from different places, but a friend told me it's easier to accept it than question it all the time.
no subject
[Food for thought at least, he'll have to see if he can gather any more information about these guys and a potential way out of Luceti.]
Well, it's not the first time something weird's happened to me, but it's different, I'll give you that. [His attention turns back to Pikachu again.] Pikachu, huh? Does he talk?
no subject
[ He feels like he's confusing himself when he explains it, but it seems... right? Did the book even say about that? Jack didn't ask about who brought them there, but it did pop up in his head. Er. Anyway, as for about Pikachu- ]
Pikachu can talk, but not to us. [ Pikachu waves out a paw in greeting, and chirps a small sound. Piiii. ] He can talk to other pokémon like him -- like animals from our world.
[ Because that's a thing worth point out, in case Jack thinks they all look like Pikachu! Can't be having that. ]
